About Us
Since arriving on 14th floor of Moos Tower, as part of the newly formed, impromptu medical genomics floor, it appears the Division of Medical Genomics is on its way to many successes that have come about through some great interactions. New NIH grants (Heather and Jatinder), new AHC grants (Brian and Subree); new grants going in, papers being published - not a bad start!
We have also been fortunate to have some State partnership dollars to develop infrastructure on the floor. As the Institute of Human Genetics is looking to new initiatives, the Medical Genomics Division is actively engaged. In the coming year, a Task Force on Medical Genomics should bring more attention to needs and opportunities. The BioMedical Genomics Center welcomes Kenny Beckman as its new Director, and we hope the technologies grow.
In addition, several of us have initiated development of a pharmacogenomics core to screen cytotoxicities and genotypes. Vishal Lamba has provided an interactive presence with help in developing concepts from Dentistry to lung cancer, Subree is marketing microRNAs as the next great medical application, and Steve is continuing an institutional development of BIONET. We will continue to have interactive floor meetings to discuss the science and promote the group dynamics. It's time to start having assignments for coordinating safety issues, cold room maintenance, tissue culture oversight, and use and purchase of common equipment and facilities.
