Center for Dystonia and Spasticity

University of Minnesota Medical School
University of Minnesota Medical Center, a division of Fairview

Dr. Dennis Dykstra, Chairman of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), Dr. Chris Leisz, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Dr. Paul Tuite, Department of Neurology, coordinate a clinical program to diagnose and treat patients with dystonia and spasticity. Our center is dedicated to providing expertise in the management of patients with disorders of movement, control and muscle spasticity through a multi-disciplinary approach.

Our team includes specialized physicians, physical therapists, nurses, and research scientists. We also work in collaboration with a variety of other specialists, depending on each patient's individual needs. To learn more about this team of specialists, click here.

In addition to medications, part of our treatment protocol includes botulinum toxin injections, which may diminish the severity of dystonia in some patients. We are also interested in using new research therapies to study and better understand the causes of dystonia, thereby helping our patients.

If you have questions regarding dystonia or spasticity, please call 612-626-6718 or Tanya Baxter, PT, at 612-626-3987.
