Dr. Downs is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health and is the Interim Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology.  In addition, Dr. Downs is the Clinical Care Co-Director of the Deborah. E. Powell Center for Women's Health, A Nationally Designated Center of Excellence and is the Program Co-leader of the Women's Cancer Research Program.  Dr. Downs is a board certified gynecologic oncologist.

Dr. Downs received his medical degree in 1994 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed an obstetrics and gynecology internship and residency at the Magee-Women’s Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.  He completed a gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Downs’ research interests include HPV induced carcinogenesis, molecular therapeutics for cervical cancer and gynecologic oncology clinical trials.
