Eye Features in Albinism

Iris transillumination or translucency
    Reduced pigment in the iris

Foveal hypoplasia
    Incomplete or absent development of the part of the retina that is important for best central vision (e.g., reading)

Reduced piment in the retinal pigment epithelium

Strabismus
    Misalignment of the eyes

Reduced or absent stereovision
    Reduced fine depth perception

Photosensitivity
    Sensitivity to light, improved with sunglasses or a hat/cap

Increased refractive errors
    Need for glasses to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism

Reduced vision

Excessive retinostriate decussation
    Abnormal routing of the fibers from the eye to the brain

Nystagmus
    To and fro involuntary movement of the eyes
