Residency Application Instructions

For a complete description of our program, please see our online Residency Program Brochure.

This program has eight positions available, each offered through the Match at the G-1 level.

The University of Minnesota program consists of an internship year in General Surgery at the University of Minnesota and four years of clinical Orthopaedic Surgery, designed to meet the requirements established by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota is once again participating in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). You will need to submit your application electronically via your Dean's Office Workstation or, if you are a foreign medical graduate, via the ECFMG. More information about applying electronically is available through the ERAS web page (www.aamc.org/eras).

We recommend that you complete your electronic application and have it transmitted to us as soon as possible. The electronic applications (application form, transcript, personal statement and three letters of recommendation) will be reviewed as they are received. Test scores (NBME, FLEX, USMLE, ECFMG) as taken, are required.  Suggestions for a competitive application can be found here.

You can continue to complete or update your application to us through November 1, 2009. After this date no further updates or new applications will be accepted. After a review of all applicants, a limited number of applicants will be invited to interview on January 21 or 22, 2010.

Applicant matched and unmatched information will be posted to the NRMP website at 12:00 noon eastern time on March 15, 2010.

We look forward to receiving your application electronically. If you have any questions, please email Betsy Wehrwein at wehrw005@umn.edu or call at (612) 273-8043. We appreciate your interest in our program.
