Medical Grand Rounds and Clinical Pathological Correlation Conference is offered by the Medicine Departments at each hospital on a weekly basis.

Core Conference
This is a didactic conference held every week at one of the four hospitals. The conference is usually presented by one of the faculty in the division and covers a topic selected from the core curriculum. This topic is discussed in depth with the faculty member and attendance by all fellows is required.

City-wide Case Conference
An inter-hospital chest conference takes place at one of the four hospitals every Wednesday morning. This conference follows a case-presentation format in which fellows or faculty present interesting cases. Faculty and fellows from all four hospitals attend this conference and often participate in spirited discussions of the cases.

Hennepin County Medical Center Pulmonary Conference
This conference is held every other week and is attended by pulmonary faculty and fellows and medical residents. Faculty and fellows present and discuss interesting cases that mainly involve infectious pulmonary diseases.

Hennepin County Medical Center Critical Care Conference This is a weekly conference in which fellows present cases involving critically ill patients. Fellows from the University of Minnesota program, fellows from the Hennepin County Medical Center. Issues involving surgical intervention of lung nodules or masses and management of lung cancer are routinely discussed at this conference.

VA Medical Center Pulmonary/Surgery Conference
This weekly case conference brings together staff from pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, and nuclear medicine to review clinical cases and form a consensus opinion for diagnostic workups and/or treatment approaches for patients seen at the Minneapolis VA.  The conference is led by the pulmonary fellow, supported by the pulmonary staff.  The majority of cases presented are related to lung cancer, but other potential surgical cases are regularly presented such as interstitial lung disease and pleural disease.

Multidisciplinary Lung Transplant Conference
This is a working conference in which the current status of patients being evaluated for lung transplants are discussed. The latter also involves staff from Cardiovascular Surgery, Cardiology, Pathology, Pediatrics and Radiology.

Research Conferences
Weekly hospital-wide research conferences are held at the VA Medical Center and the University of Minnesota.

  • Division-wide Pulmonary/Critical Care Research Conference
    This is a weekly conference held at the University of Minnesota and attended by all faculty and fellows. This conference features presentations by staff and fellows from the four hospitals involving studies in progress and by visiting professors. The conference also incorporates a series of monthly lectures on lung pathology, advanced pulmonary physiology or critical care topics.

  • VAMC Research Conference
    This is a hospital-wide weekly research conference presented by VAMC faculty or by an invited speaker. Speakers present research in progress to an audience mainly comprised of faculty from the Department of Medicine, fellows, medical residents, and medical students.

  • FUMC Research Conference
    This is a hospital-wide weekly research conference presented by FUMC faculty. Speakers present research in progress to an audience mainly comprised of faculty from the Department of Medicine.
