Research Interests
Dr. Patil’s research experience in the three years he was a trainee focused on gene expression profiling of peripheral blood mononuclear cells in lung transplant recipients. His poster, “Cytomegalovirus shedding does not influence gene expression in bronchoalveolar lavage cells after lung transplantation,” was presented at the World Transplant Congress in July 2006. The above project involved obtaining consent from many patients for lung transplant research and collecting blood and BAL samples. He produced microarrays in the lab using some of the above samples and analyzing the data. Two manuscripts have been published utilizing the data from this project. Additionally, Dr. Patil successfully completed an Advanced Genetics course as well as two semesters of Biostatistics, which enhanced his research development.
