Fellowship Program

The Division’s active fellowship program in pulmonary and critical care incorporates clinical activity at four hospital sites: Fairview-University Medical Center, Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis VA Medical Center, and Regions Medical Center. The program includes extensive critical care training and dedicated educational experiences in sleep disorders and tuberculosis.

The Allergy Section provides education and training of students, residents, fellows, and physicians in the community in asthma and allergy. The section has a residency training program in allergy and clinical immunology, an annual continuing medical education course each spring, and sponsors the annual Blumenthal Lectureship, which brings outstanding individuals in the field of allergy and immunology to the University of Minnesota.

Research training is provided to pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral M.D. and Ph.D. fellows through a NHLBI training grant with Dr. David Ingbar, principal investigator.

The training has three major curricular domains:

1)

Cell and molecular biology

2)

Bioengineering and

3)

Clinical research leading to a masters degree in public health or clinical research.

This effort includes University-wide collaboration with faculty across many schools and departments. Trainees are strongly encouraged to obtain advanced degrees (Ph.D. or M.P.H.) through established joint pathways. The Division also interacts closely with the Lillehei Heart Institute’s educational programs.

The composite faculty offers an outstanding educational opportunity centered at the University of Minnesota. There are established interactions across multiple schools, departments and centers, including the Center for Immunology, Cancer Center, Stem Cell Institute, Clinical Outcomes Research Center, Bioengineering Institute, the School of Public Health, School of Nursing, College of Biology, College of Veterinary Medicine and College of Pharmacy.

Please see links to the right for more specific information on pulmonary and allergy educational opportunities.
