David Risher, MD

Mentor:  Peter Bitterman, MD

Current Position: Private Internal Medicine Practice, Golden Valley and St. Louis Park, Minnesota

Research Project:  "Translational Response of Rat Lungs to Injurious Ventilation"

Specific Aims:
  • Determine if rat lungs can adapt over a short time period to injurious patterns of positive pressure mechanical ventilation which simulates that used in patients in critical care units.
  • Characterize the transcriptional and translational response of rat lung to control, injurious, and adapted ventilation using microarrays on unstratified and polyribosome-stratified RNA.
  • Identify one RNA user code that specifies translational activation of RNA species characterizing the adapted state
