When it comes to teaching resources, we have some of the finest hands-on “classrooms” in the nation.
Our Medical School faculty physicians care for patients and oversee the training of residents and medical students in our primary teaching hospitals: University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview and University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital.
We also supply residents and clinical experts to hospitals and clinics throughout the state of Minnesota.
More than 1,030 full-time faculty members and 2,800 preceptor faculty members educate more than 1,700 students in the University’s M.D. program, and more than 970 specialty residency and fellowship physicians, at hospitals and clinical sites across Minnesota.

University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital
We are Minnesota’s first, and only, academic pediatric hospital. We completed the first successful pediatric blood marrow transplant, the first infant heart transplant in Minnesota, and the first cochlear ear implant surgery for a child.

And now, we are poised for another generation of breakthroughs with the opening of a new facility in Spring 2011. This new 227,000-square-foot state-of-the-art hospital will feature:
- More than 50 pediatric specialties
- A intensive care unit dedicated exclusively to the care of critically ill children -- one of the first and only in the nation
- Minnesota’s only children's behavioral inpatient unit devoted to children ages 12 and younger
- One of the world’s three largest kidney transplant programs specializing in infants and small children

Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc. operates Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in downtown Minneapolis. A level 1 trauma center, HCMC was awarded the 2008 President’s Award for staff dedication and commitment to serving victims of the I-35W bridge collapse.
