Dr. Daniel Gruenstein joined the faculty at University of Minnesota July 2006 as Director of Pediatric Interventional Cardiology for the Department of Pediatrics and the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview.
Dr. Gruenstein came to the University of Minnesota from Case Western Reserve University were he was an Assistant Professor and a member of the Division of Cardiology at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland. He attended Washington University for his undergraduate degree, received his M.D. from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and was a Pediatric Resident and Cardiology Fellow at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
Dr. Gruenstein has particular interest in expansion of our interventional cardiology services, especially in the use of intravascular stents and hybrid catheterization-surgical procedures. He has been working closely with the pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons to develop a team that performs cutting-edge hybrid procedures in the new state-of-the-art hybrid catheterization laboratory. Dr Gruenstein and Dr. Cynthia Herrington, from Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, performed the first Hybrid Team procedure to be done in the new lab shortly after his arrival in July of 2006. Dr. Gruenstein's clinical research interests focus on intracardiac device placement in the cath lab.
