Dr. Kaplan is Professor in the Divisions of Pediatric Infectious Disease and of Pediatric Cardiology. He is the Head, World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Reference and Research on Streptococci.
Dr. Kaplan's research and clinical interests include congenital and acquired heart disease in the pediatric age group. His primary research interests are in the areas of streptococcal infections and rheumatic fever/rheumatic heart disease. His research laboratory, designated a World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Reference and Research on Streptococci, actively works in the areas of microbiology, immunology and epidemiology of streptococcal infections and their sequelae.
