Evaluation FAQs

What is New Innovations? What is RMS?
New Innovations, Inc. is the company that created RMS (Residency Management Suite).  RMS is a tool that assists medical schools, hospitals and private practices in the area of medical education and department administration, to unify data into a centralized data warehouse and to complete tasks, historically performed using multiple, incompatible methods, through one common interface.

How do I login to RMS? What is the Institution Login, my Username, and/or Password?

  1. Click this link or go to https://www.new-innov.com/Login/Login.aspx?Hospital=MMCGME
  2. Institution Login: MMCGME
  3. Username: [first initial last name] (all lowercase – Also please note that in some cases, your Username will be your University of Minnesota issued X.500 login)
  4. Password: [first initial last name] (all lowercase)
  5. Click “Login”

I get a message that says “You are unable to view this area because you do not have sufficient privileges in UMN-Pediatrics”. What do I do?

  1. Click the link for the “Welcome Page”
  2. Hold the mouse over “Main” so that a drop down menu appears
  3. Click on “Change Department” from the drop down list
  4. Choose “UMN-PEDS-Pediatrics Residency” or “UMN-PEDS-[your home program]”
  5. Click “Continue”
  6. Proceed as before

I didn’t work with this person. What should I do? Should the evaluation be deleted?
If you haven’t worked with someone enough to evaluate him or her, including if you haven’t worked with the person at all, please click the checkbox next the evaluation and click “Submit Selected Evaluations as NET(Not Enough Time with subject)”.  The evaluation does not need to be deleted, nor do you need to mark each question as N/A.

What does NET really mean? When should I use it?
NET stands for Not Enough Time.  It is the appropriate selection to make when you have NOT worked with someone enough to be able to evaluate him or her.

Why do I need to complete evaluations?
Completing evaluations is a program requirement. Refer to your specific program manual for additional information on program requirements.

Are the evaluations I complete anonymous to the subject?
If you are a preceptor completing evaluations of a resident, the Program Director and the resident can view your responses.  If you have a comment that you would like to make confidentially, please fill out a Confidential Comment Card.

If you are a resident completing evaluations of a preceptor, fellow, or peer, your responses will remain anonymous to the subject viewing them.  Only the Program Director and RMS administrators will be able to see names associated with anonymous evaluations.  Preceptors, fellows, and your peers will be able to view individual evaluations completed by you about them after at least 3 evaluations have been completed to ensure anonymity.

What if I want to make a confidential comment about someone?
Please complete a Confidential Comment Card:

  1. From the Welcome Screen, click on “select a person to evaluate” from the Notifications box
  2. Click “Choose Subject” next to 2008-2009 Peds Res Confidential Comment - Gen Use
  3. Choose a subject from the drop down list at the top.  It is optional to select a Rotation from the drop down list.
  4. Click on “Create this evaluation”

Additionally, faculty members can also use the Concern Card:

  1. From the Welcome Screen, click on “select a person to evaluate” from the Notifications box
  2. Click “Choose Subject” next to 2008-2009 Peds Resident Concern Card - Faculty Use
  3. Choose a subject from the drop down list at the top.  It is optional to select a Rotation from the drop down list.
  4. Click on “Create this evaluation”

I want to evaluate someone with whom I worked, but there isn’t an evaluation already set up in RMS.  How do I evaluate more people?
To evaluate more Pediatric Residents, send an email to Mary Ellen Six at mesix@umn.edu and request that they be set up.  To evaluate a Pediatric Fellow, please contact the fellowship program.  A list of fellowship contacts can be found here.  An evaluation creation tool similar to the Confidential Comment Card and the Concern Card is coming soon!
