Ronald A. Furnival, MD, FAAP, FACEP, is a Professor of Pediatrics, Director of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and, Medical Director of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital.

Dr. Furnival received his M.D. degree from the University of Minnesota, and completed his internship and residency at the University of Minnesota. He then moved on to complete a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at the University of Utah School of Medicine and Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

He remained at the University of Utah as faculty in the Department of Pediatrics in Emergency Medicine for 13 years. From 1998-2004, he served on the AAP Committee on Pediatric Emergency Medicine. In addition, from 2002-2005 Dr. Furnival was a faculty member of the National Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Data Analysis Resource Center (NEDARC) and the  Intermountain Injury Control Research Center at the University of Utah School of Medicine.  Dr. Furnival returned to the University of Minnesota in 2006 to lead the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Furnival is nationally recognized for his work on enhancing patient safety, pediatric prehospital care, pediatric trauma and analysis of emergency medical services data at statewide levels.
