Thomas Hellmich, M.D., MBA, is a Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital. Dr. Hellmich received his M.D. degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine, and completed his residency at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. He then moved on to complete a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Dr. Hellmich joined the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in July 2009. Originally from Indiana, Dr. Hellmich graduated from DePauw and attended medical school at Indiana University. He completed residency, chief residency and fellowship training at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Dr. Hellmich subsequently spent 17 years as a pediatric emergency department staff physician at Children's Hospital & Clinics of MN where he held numerous physician leadership roles including Chieff of Staff, Medical Director of Emergency Services, Medical Director of Patient Safety, Medical Director of Simulation, and Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Director. He recently served on the Board of Directors of the MN Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Children's Physician Network, and CornerHouse. In 2004, he received a MBA in Health Care Management from the University of St. Thomas. His research interests include health care service delivery, in particular patient safety, simulation, and health care disparity.
