Year 1 Goals & Objectives

Become comfortable with the terminology for all goals and objectives for the fellowship program and account for progress in each area outlined. Particular focus should be placed in the following areas:

Clinical

  • Primary goals of inpatient experience:
    • Attend rounds and follow patients with resident
    • Identify pertinent patient data and propose plan for each inpatient
    • Assist inpatient resident with new consultations
  • Primary goals of outpatient/continuity and clinic/academic experience:
    • Patient Care: Demonstrate competence at taking relevant history and performing pertinent exams for pediatric endocrine patients.
    • Medical Knowledge: Recognize the clinical presentation for each of the diseases outlined in Section A of the PATIENT CARE Competency in the supplementary manual.
    • Problem Based Learning: Understand the importance of an individualized learning plan and identify areas of deficiencies.
    • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Identify attributes of effective teacher; attend conference on improving teaching skills.
    • Professionalism: Identify the needs of the patients with a chronic endocrine disorder and their families from different ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic status.
    • Systems Based Practice: Identify an appropriate quality improvement project to complete during fellowship.

Research

  • Designate research mentor
  • Define research hypothesis
  • Outline research methodology to complete project over three years
  • Complete bulk of Master's course work (if applicable)
  • Primary author of case presentation or review manuscript
  • Attend grant preparation course
