 Assistant Professor Phone: (612) 624-5409 Fax: (612) 626-5262 saraf010@umn.edu Dr. Kyriakie Sarafoglou is an Assistant Professor in both the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and the Division of Genetics and Metabolism. She is active in patient care, clinical research and education of medical students and pediatric residents. In addition to treating patients with pubertal, growth, adrenal, bone metabolism and thyroid disorders, Dr. Sarafoglou, along with colleagues from pediatric urology, psychology, endocrinology, genetics and the Minnesota Department of Health, has opened the country's first congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) and disorders of sex development(DSD)multi-disciplinary clinic in which all healthcare specialists provide care in a single clinic location. She is also the scientific advisor to the Minnesota Department of Health CAH Newborn Screening Program. Dr. Sarafoglou is lead endocrinologist of the CAH/DSD workgroup of the Region 4 Genetics Collaborative, a consortium of hospitals and newborn screening programs from seven Midwest states. She has created eight CAH/DSD web-based surveys/registries covering endocrine, genetic, and urological aspects that physicians from participating centers from the seven states can enter patient data in order to examine on a broader scale the outcomes of patients with these rare disorders. Dr. Sarafoglou has research projects with The Mayo Clinic and Children's Hospitals of Minneapolis/St. Paul that focus on new monitoring techniques, pubertal development, growth and reproductive function in patients with CAH. In December 2008, McGraw Hill published Dr. Sarafoglou's textbook Pediatric Endocrinology and Inborn Errors of Metabolism. The 1,000 page, 50 chapter, 93 contributor, hardbound, full-color medical reference covers 500 individual endocrine and metabolic disorders.
