Diabetes with Cystic Fibrosis (CFRD)

40% of adult cystic fibrosis (CF) patients have abnormal glucose tolerance, called CF-related diabetes (CFRD). Some of these patients have high blood sugar levels all of the time and some have high sugars off and on. CFRD is different from other forms of diabetes. Diabetes may contribute to a worsening of the pulmonary disease, and one study has shown that treating the diabetes improves lung function and nutritional status.
