Short Stature (Growth Hormone Imbalance)


Children with primary insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) deficiency are short in stature and have an imbalance in the levels of growth hormone and IGF-1 that their body produces. Their growth hormone levels are normal or even high, but IGF-1 levels do not increase in response to the production of growth hormone and, as a result, they have a type of growth hormone insensitivity and inability to grow normally.

You are eligible for these studies:

IF YOUR CHILD

AND DOES NOT
HAVE

YOUR CHILD IS
ELIGIBLE FOR

Has a chronological age of
greater than or equal to 3
years or bone age of less
than or equal to 11 in girls
and less than or equal to 12
in boys, is prepubertal,
height SD less than -2,
IGF-1 SD less than -2,
Stim test greater than or
equal to 7 (can have test as
part of the study), and has
adequate nutrition
Prior GF treatment,
growth failure due to
organic caus, chronic
illness or ADHD
medications







Recombinant human insulin-
like growth factor-1 (rhIGF-1)
treatment of prepubertal
children with growth failure
associated with primary IGF-1
deficiency.

YOUR CHILD IS
ELIGIBLE FOR

1.5 years to 14 years of age with ISS and/or SGA



Has height below 2 SD, growth velocity below the 25th percentileansence of known
endocrine disease or skeletal dysplasia, and no evidence of malnutrition or GI malabsorption
Partial growth hormone insensitivity in idiopathic short stature/small-for-
gestational-age patients.
