Dr. Poynter joined the faculty as an assistant professor in July 2008.  She received her Ph.D. in Epidemiologic Sciences from the University of Michigan in 2005.  Her dissertation research was focused on the molecular epidemiology of colorectal cancer.  She recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Robert Haile in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California where she focused on gaining a better understanding of genetic and epigenetic alterations in the mismatch repair pathway and on pathway-based approaches for understanding the role of candidate genes.  Dr. Poynter’s research interests include evaluating the role of genetic and epigenetic alterations in the etiology of pediatric germ cell tumors.
