Simona Ognjanovic, Ph.D.

She received a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Hawaii in 2002, with a focus on molecular endocrinology and inflammatory cytokines. Her dissertation was focused on a novel inflammatory factor (PBEF, also named visfatin) and its role in preterm birth. Her interest in the role of inflammation in cancer development lead to the completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular cancer epidemiology under Dr. Loic LeMarchand at the University of Hawaii. Dr. Ognjanovic's research interests include the role of inflammatory and growth factors in the etiology of childhood cancer and other pediatric diseases. The focus of her laboratory is research on the role of genetic determinants in pediatric rhabdomyosarcoma development.
