Dr. Aaron Friedman is the Vice President for Health Sciences and Dean of the Medical School of the University of Minnesota, appointed in January, 2011.  He served as the Ruben-Bentson Chair of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota and the Pediatrician-in-Chief of the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 2008-2010.  He is a graduate of Cornell University [BS, Biology] and SUNY Upstate Medical School. He received his pediatric residency and pediatric nephrology fellowship training at the University of Wisconsin where he served as chief resident as well. Dr Friedman joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin moving from Assistant to Full Professor and then Chair of the Department. His research centered on amino acid transport and factors influencing growth in chronic renal failure. He is the chair of a steering committee for an NIH sponsored clinical trial in pediatric nephrology. Dr Friedman served on the council and then as President [2000-2002] of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Pediatrics; served as its Secretary Treasurer for 2006, Chair Elect for 2007 and Chair of the Board 2008, Dr Friedman served as chair of the Pediatric Leadership Alliance working group through the American Academy of Pediatrics [AAP] from 1997-2004 and as chair of the AAP Committee on Pediatric Workforce [2006-2007].  Dr. Friedman received the Henry Barnett Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics for contributions to children with kidney disease and to the pediatric nephrology community.
