The Genetics Clinic team is dedicated to caring for infants, children, and adults with birth defects, genetic and inherited conditions.
Each patient referred to the Genetics Clinic will be seen by a medical geneticist (physician) and a genetic counselor in the evaluation and management of genetic conditions.
Coordination of visits with consultants in other medical specialties, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, ophthalmology, and orthopaedics can also be arranged when needed.

Patients who are referred to the Vascular Anomalies (Klippel-Trenaunay, KT) Clinic are encouraged to call the clinic coordinator, Cindy Pham Lorentz, directly to schedule an appointment. Her phone number is 612-624-6467. Appointments for the KT Clinic cannot be made through Central Scheduling.

Patients are seen on Tuesdays in the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview Specialty Clinic (Phillips-Wangensteen Building 4th floor on the University Campus).
Our Patients
Patients are seen from a wide geographic area, most commonly Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Michigan (UP).
The most common reasons for these visits are:
- developmental delays/mental retardation
- birth defects
- dysmorphism
- chromosome abnormality (e.g. Down syndrome, Turner syndrome, Klinefelter syndrome, etc.)
- Marfan syndrome
- neurofibromatosis
- Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
- Fragile X syndrome
- hearing loss
- inherited or genetic eye disease
Services Provided
- Collection of detailed family history
- Medical evaluation to assess if there is a genetic cause for clinical findings
- Genetic counseling regarding genetic testing options, mode of inheritance, recurrence risks, and psychological support
- Referral to appropriate medical specialists

About the Clinic Visit
It is very important to have medical records, test results, X-rays, and other information from your referring doctor that may apply to the reason for your appointment in our clinic. It is very important to your care that we receive these records prior to the clinic appointment.
