The faculty of the Division of Academic General Pediatrics are actively involved in many research projects. Some funded projects include: Borowsky (PI) 9/2008 - 6/2011 Health Resources and Services Administration Physician Faculty Development in Primary Care The purpose of this project is to prepare a cadre of pediatric clinician researchers for leadership roles in the academic sector through the development of functional capabilities in research, education, program development, outcomes evaluation, policy, and advocacy, with a focus on serving children from historically underserved communities. Primary Care for Children with Autism within the Context of a Medical Home, a Pilot Study Grant from the Minnesota Department of Health. Golnik (PI) Entry into Adult Care for Youth with Chronic Conditions. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 1 K08 HS015511-01A1, 09/1/06-08/31/09 $400,167. Through mentored research award Dr. Scal is developing expertise and leadership skills in health services research which will serve as the foundations for a career focused on promoting the health and high quality health care services for youth with chronic conditions as they transition to adulthood and from pediatric to adult-focused medical care.
Rheum-to-Grow.org: An Internet-based health care transition program. University of Minnesota-Academic Health Center 01/01/08-12/31/09 $202,000 (Co-PI: Scal, Garwick, Horvath) The goal of this collaborative, interdisciplinary project is to develop and pilot test a prototype of an innovative health care transition program for teens with arthritis. Guided by both theory and youth participation, the focus of the interactive intervention is to support teens in a process of becoming more engaged in activities related to their health and healthcare.
