Sarah Cusick is an assistant professor in the Division of Global Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Dr. Cusick’s research focuses on international maternal and child nutrition, the interaction between nutritional deficiencies and infectious disease, and the effect of these interactions on child health and long-term cognitive development. Currently funded research includes an NIH-funded study on the effect of acute vs. delayed iron therapy in severe malaria on anemia, iron status, and neurobehavioral development in Ugandan children (PI: Chandy John, M.D.). Cusick received her Ph.D. in international health and human nutrition from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She also completed post-doctoral fellowships in domestic and international nutrition at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA. Cusick is also adjunct instructor in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health in the School of Public Health and teaches the biochemical assessment portion of PubH6915 Nutritional Assessment.
