For Patients & Families

Our physicians are experienced cancer and blood disorder professionals striving to continuously improve treatment of children through coordinated advances in clinical care, research and education. Here, our team of specialists focus their combined expertise on providing an accurate and prompt diagnosis, and leading-edge solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of each child.

Translating Cancer and Blood Disorder Research into Superior Care for Children

Our physicians are active members of The Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota, one of only 39 National Cancer Institute (NCI) Comprehensive Cancer Centers. This status is given only to institutions that make ongoing, significant advances in research that are instrumental in understanding causes, prevention, detection and treatment of cancer.

This means when you see a pediatric physician specializing in cancer and blood disorders, you have access to the latest in prevention, detection, clinical trials, and breakthroughs in therapies and treatment.

A Collaborative Approach to Your Child's Care

We are leaders in applying a multidisciplinary team approach to treating cancer and blood disorders. Multiple perspectives combined with sub-specialty expertise results in the best possible patient care. Multidisciplinary teams include pediatric physician specialists in oncology and/or hematology (blood disorders), radiation oncology, surgical oncology, pathology, diagnostic radiology and oncology nurse coordinators. Disease-specific teams enable your child to see specialists for their specific condition. Teams meet regularly to review the progress and individual treatment plan, resulting in quick adjustments to medical care based on the body's response and progress.

Convenience

Our laboratory, chemotherapy and pharmacy services are on-site at the Masonic Cancer Center. Diagnostic radiology, radiation therapy, and surgical services are accessible by enclosed walkways to adjacent facilities. Our hematology oncology staff is available to coordinate your access to nutritional counselors, social workers, pain management experts, social workers and support groups as part of the overall treatment plan. The Pediatric Imaging and Sedation Center is also available on-site.
