The University of Minnesota Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Division supports a comprehensive clinical, research and education program. In addition to oncology, experts in hematology and blood and marrow transplantation participate in the programs. A rapidly expanding area of focus for the Division involves the development of therapies designed to treat children with high risk malignancies or recurrence of their original cancer. In addition new areas of focus include: - Bleeding and thrombotic disorders in children
- An expanded neuro-oncology program
- An expanded program in innovative therapies and new agents
- Longitudinal studies of outcomes in cancer patients and patients treated with blood and marrow transplantation.
- Childhood Leukemia Program
Excellent care, coupled with ongoing research, has had a significantly positive impact on the outcomes of children with cancer. Investigators at the University of Minnesota Division of Hematology and Oncology are at the forefront of research that improves the survival of children with cancer. Patients needing hospitalization are cared for on a dedicated hematology/oncology inpatient unit within the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital.
