IAC Initial Visit
Focus:
Includes complete physical examination to evaluate for immediate heatlh issues, initial development status, laboratory evaluation for communicable diseases and to assess health/immunization status, and time to address your questions about your child's adjustement to her/his new environment. Referrals, as indicated.
Type of visit:
Medical.
Appropriate for:
- Any age child
- Internationally or domestically adopted
- Child has been in the U.S. for < 3 weeks
When to schedule:
- As soon as you know your child’s arrival date. (Call 612-626-6777)
- Initial visit should take place at 2-3 weeks post-arrival. Follow-up at 3 or 6 months post-arrival.
Length of visit:
Please allow 2 hours for this visit. Please arrive 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO YOUR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT TIME. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after your appointment time, we will ask you to please reschedule.
Follow-up appointment (3 or 6 months post-arrival):
Review interval history regarding attachment and transition issues of both the child to the family and the family to the child, medical illnesses, catch-up growth and developmental progress. Retest labs for HIV 1&2, hepatitis C and micronutrient deficiencies and perform a repeat tuberculin skin test.
