Clinic Services |
| Initial Visit | - Child has arrived in the U.S. recently
- Includes complete physical examination to evaluate for immediate health issues, initial development status, laboratory evaluation for communicable diseases and to assess health/immunization status, and time to address your questions about your child’s adjustment to her/his new environment. Referrals, as indicated.

Focused Visit | - Child has been in the U.S. for some time but did not visit the IAC soon after arrival
- Includes a review of parent concerns, review of the child’s pre- and post-adoption medical and social history and complete physical examination (depending on reported concerns). Lab testing and referrals, as indicated.

Developmental Assessment, < 6 years old (visit with the child psychologist) | - For children younger than 6 years old.
- Assesses learning skills, language and communication skills and development of attachment relationship.

Developmental Assessment, 6 years + (visit with the child psychologist) | - For children 6 years and older.
- Tests all realms of cognitive function, including learning, memory, decision making, problem solving and etc.

FAS Assessment (visit with the child psychologist) | - Comprehensive assessment to determine whether your child has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome or any of the fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.

Family Therapy - Transition Visit (visit with the child psychologist) | - Focuses on issues related to your family and child’s adjustment to a new environment.

| Coordinated Care | - Usually, this category of appointments applies only to people traveling from more than 1 day’s drive or flying in to Minneapolis to come to the IAC.
- Child has a number of issues/concerns that must be addressed by specialists in any of: neuropsychology, endocrinology, genetics, infectious diseases, occupational/physical therapy, ophthalmology, audiology and speech/language.

Domestic Adoption Services | - Any of our services can be tailored for a domestically adopted child; call 612-626-6777 to schedule a medical appointment or email iac@umn.edu for a psychologist visit.
