Donate online to the IAC
Since the inception of our program at the International Adoption Clinic, we have relied on donations rather than a fee for service. We choose to continue this policy for two reasons:
- We wish to make our services available to everyone considering adoption irrespective of their financial situation. In a large study of international adoptees placed in Minnesota during 1990-98, families who had their referral information reviewed by a medical professional had clearer expectations about their adopted child's medical and behavioral concerns and a more positive outlook on international adoption as a way to build a family. In their adopted children, attention deficit disorder and attachment and learning problems were reported about 50% less often. The International Adoption Clinic does not want you to forgo a medical review simply because you cannot bear another fee.
- Opponents of international adoption have gone so far as to characterize the adoption process as "trafficking." We are sensitive to this issue and wish to avoid the appearance that we are profiting from adoption placements.
Although we do not charge a fee for pre-adoption consultations, the services, research and activities of the IAC are made possible exclusively through donations to the University Pediatrics Foundation, who funds our clinic. All of your donations go directly into the education of parents like you, research into the challenges faced by children like yours, and methods to improve care for children who are not likely to be adopted.
None of your donation goes to administrative or fundraising expenses. Donations are 100% tax deductible, and you will receive a receipt from the Minnesota Medical Foundation.
Please note: the cost of a physical examination is a separate expense and is not donation-based, though the clinic visit is covered under most insurance plans. If you have questions regarding insurance coverage for your clinic visit, please call the International Adoption Clinic financial counselor at 612-625-8921.
For Pre-adoption Consultations
The International Adoption Clinic suggests a donation of $250 per child or sibling group, and $125 for each additional unrelated child we review thereafter. (For example, if you recevied information on two unrelated children, we suggest a donation of $375 for our services.) This donation covers an evaluation of any materials on a particular child or sibling group. You can make your donation online, by mail, or by calling the Minnesota Medical Foundation. We trust you will choose to support our work and services through the donation process.

If sending a donation by mail, please make your check payable to the University Pediatrics Foundation and indicate on the memo line that your donation is for the International Adoption Clinic. You can either include your check with your pre-adoption materials should you decide to mail them, or under separate cover to:
