 Pediatric Injury Prevention Counseling Study         Dec. – Jan. 1999

Description: An injury prevention study conducted in the pediatric Emergency Department at UNC Chapel Hill Hospitals to assess the general injury prevention behaviors of families with children under age 16 and to assess issues of injury prevention counseling.

Primarily responsible for development of rapid detection of HIV resistance mutations using RT-PCR and ABI 7700 technology.

Focused on pediatric HIV disease. Carried HIV-positive cell lines in BSL-3 facility. Preformed genotypic and phenotypic resistance analyses of clinical HIV samples. DNA extraction and RT-PCR on human tissue and plasma samples. Responsible for genotypic analysis of clinical HIV samples obtained from plasma and CSF of patients treated with AZT.
