TRAINING RECORD / MENTORSHIPS
Medical Students
1993-95 Sarah Carlson —1993 CBS Life Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Program project. 1993-95 Medical Student Research Project. Both on surface expression of int1p in C. albicans and related Candida species. This work was presented as a poster at the 1994 SPR meeting in Seattle, WA (see abstract listing above).
1994, Jennifer Olson — 1994 Department of Microbiology Directed Research course
1996–97 project for two quarters. 1996-97 medical student research project. Both evaluating the adhesion of various yeasts transformed with mutant INT1 genes to elucidate the mechanisms mediated by this gene.
Undergraduates
1999 Kristin Hokanson — 1999 CBS Life Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Program project to evaluate the time course of surface expression of int1p in transformed S. cerevisiae using GFP-tagged constructs and fluorescent microscopy. She presented her preliminary findings at a poster session for the CBS.
Graduate Students
2002-03 Mary Keane — Undergraduate research project evaluating mediators of the adhesion of Candida to cultured enterocytes, including dexamethasone and hypoxia. This work was presented as poster at the 2003 PAS meeting in Seattle, WA and the 2004 ASM Candida and Candidiasis conference (see abstract listings above).
Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellows
2004 - Mary-Alice Johnson — Fellowship research project on the pathogenesis of Candida parapsilosis infections in the neonate.
