Theodore R. Thompson, M.D., is Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Neonatology. He earned his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and served his internship, residency and chief residency at the University of Minnesota Hospital, where he also did his neonatology fellowship. In addition to attending on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Dr. Thompson was until recently the Associate Chief of Pediatric Services and is now Associate Head for Education and Community Programs for the Department of Pediatrics, Medical Director of Outreach and Secretary for UMPhysicians and Director of Clinical Education for the Medical School. He chairs and/or serves on numerous committees. Dr. Thompson has published extensively including Pediatrics, Journal of Pediatrics and Pediatric Research. He has authored numerous abstracts and is currently in the process of updating Intensive Care of Newborn Infants: A Practical Manual, originally published by the University of Minnesota Press in 1983. Dr. Thompson is an invited speaker throughout the state and region on a variety of topics. Dr. Thompson was selected one of 25 Outstanding Administrators by Minnesota Physician in 1995, was named one of Minnesota’s 100 Most Influential Health Care Leaders by Minnesota Physician in 1996, was selected as an “Outstanding Physician in Neonatology” by Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine in 2001 and 2002, and, since 1970, has consistently received the American Medical Association Physicians’ Recognition Award for Continuing Medical Education.
