Dr. Kashtan's research focuses on the molecular and cellular biology of inherited basement membrane disorders, in particular Alport syndrome.  Dr. Kashtan performs original and collaborative research on the pathogenesis and treatment of the phenotypic manifestations of Alport syndrome, involving both human subjects and animals with the disease.  His work is supported by the National Institutes of Health.
