UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AMPLATZ CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

University of Minnesota Physicians and University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital provides comprehensive care for infants, children and adolescents with kidney disease. Our board-certified pediatric nephrologists work closely with experts in other specialties, including pediatric urology, transplant surgery, psychology, nutrition and social work, to address the specific needs of each child and family.

Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top pediatric nephrology programs in the nation, University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital has performed the largest number of pediatric kidney transplants in the world and has the highest reported infant kidney transplant success rate in the world. Our kidney program is ranked the highest in Minnesota in 2010 and among the best in the Midwest for the third consecutive year.

KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION

The Kidney Transplant Program at the University of Minnesota is one of the most successful transplant programs in the world. Since 1963, procedures and practices developed at the University of Minnesota have influenced kidney disease treatment and kidney transplantation worldwide. Nearly 1,000 children have received a kidney transplant at University of Minnesota -- the single largest number of pediatric kidney transplants in the world. Patients and families benefit from our family-centered care and innovative treatments uniquely designed for infants, children and adolescents. We also have one of the largest living donor kidney programs in the country, increasing the chances that a child will receive a life-saving kidney.

Our expert team of pediatric nephrologists, pediatric transplant surgeons, pediatric urologists, nurse coordinators, social workers, dieticians and allied staff excels in the care of children of all ages with end-stage renal disease.

THE KIDNEY CENTER

The Kidney Center at University of Minnesota-Amplatz Children's Hospital is devoted to the care of infants, children and adolescents with kidney failure. This six-bed, state-of-the-art facility opened in April 2011 and is the only dedicated pediatric dialysis unit in Minnesota. The highly experienced staff of dialysis nurses, dieticians, social workers and child-family life specialists work closely with the University of Minnesota Pediatric faculty to provide internationally recognized care to infants, children and adolescents with end-stage kidney disease, establishing a bridge to kidney transplantation. The Kidney Center also provides shorter term dialysis to children with recoverable kidney failure both as inpatients or outpatients.
