Dr. James Moller has been selected to receive the Meritorious Achievement Award. The America Heart Association's Council on Cardiovascular Disease in the Young gives the Meritorious Achievement Award annually to an accomplished nominee who has made significant achievements toward the council mission through research, education and advocacy, with an emphasis on heart health in children and adults. This prestigious award commemorates Dr. Moller's significant impact in the field of cardiovascular disease in the young and for helping further the mission of the council.

Dr. Warren Warwick recipient of the 2006 Charles Bolles Bolles-Rogers Award of the Hennepin Medical Society
Congratulations to Dr. Warren Warwick, recipient of Hennepin Medical Society's 2006 Charles Bolles Bolles-Rogers Award. This is a most prestigous local honor given to a physician by his/her colleagues. It is given to a physician who, by reason of his/her professional contribution on the basis of medical research, achievement or leadership, has become the outstanding physician this and other years. The award will be presented to Dr. Warwick at a medical staff meeting at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview.
Dr. Harvey Sharp receives the Distinguished Service Award by the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition
Dr. Harvey Sharp has been selected to receive the Distinguished Service Award by the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. This is a most prestigious award, and a fitting recognition of Dr. Sharp's contributions to clinical care, research, and education in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
Drs. James Moller and John C. O'Connell honored at the Outstanding Endeavors in Pediatrics: Annual Education, Research and Service Recognition Banquet
The banquet held on June 21, 2006, and hosted by the Department of Pediatrics, honors pediatricians involved in education, research and service through the University of Minnesota.
Dr. James H. Moller, Pediatric Cardiologist received the 2006 Gold-Headed Cane Award. This is the highest honor the department gives and reflects the recipient's life-long commitment to children and overall contributions to the practice of medicine. Dr. Moller has been a member of the faculty in the Medical School since 1965. He is the former Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and is a Professor of Pediatrics and Paul F. Dwan Professor in Pediatric Cardiology. He is the only Pediatric Cardiologist who was President of the American Heart Association, where one of his initiatives was the promotion of heart health in children. He was a Board Member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He started and continues to run the only multicenter collection of outcomes for Pediatric cardiovascular surgery and cardiac catheterization that is still actively involved in collecting information from throughout the US, the Pediatric Cardiac Care Consortium. He is a former Chairman of the Foundations Advisory Board of the World Heart Federation.
Dr. John C. O'Connell received the 2006 Homer and Maurine Venters Clinical Teaching Award. This award was established by an endowment gift from Homer and Maurine Venters and recognizes a community clinician who is an outstanding educator in primary care pediatrics. Since 1980, Dr. O'Connell has been actively involved in teaching medical students as part of the pediatric component of the Physician and Patient program, an active member of the Adjunct Faculty Committee, an advocate for medical students and residents and a stalwart supporter of the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. O'Connell practices at Metropolitan Pediatrics Specialists in Burnsville, MN .

Dr. Mark Schleiss keynote speaker at 1st Congress of the Asian Society for Pediatric Research
Dr. Mark Schleiss, American Legion Chair of Pediatrics and Director, Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology, was the keynote speaker at the Asian Society for Pediatric Research Annual Meeting on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, in Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Schleiss lectured on the epidemiology and pathogenesis of congenital cytomegalovirus infection to an audience of academic pediatric physicians from throughout Asia. Dr. Schleiss practices at the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview and is the Secretary-Treasurer of the Society for Pediatric Research, USA. Ten faculty members of the Department of Pediatrics have been elected to the American Pediatric Society/Society for Pediatric Research. This represents the largest single annual number of departmental faculty ever to be elected to the Society.
Dr. Amos Deinard receives the first "Outstanding Community Leadership Award"
Dr. Amos Deinard recently received the first "Outstanding Community Leadership Award" at the inaugural conference of the Minnesota Association of Community Health Centers, held October 10-11, 2005, in Minneapolis. This award was presented to Dr. Deinard in recognition of his many years of diligent work in advocating for the health care needs of low-income, uninsured, and special needs patients in Minnesota. The Association represents 18 community health center programs throughout the state, serving 120,000 patients at 54 sites, providing medical, dental, mental health, substance abuse, and case management services. Dr. Deinard served as the Association's Board Chair from 1995-1997, and has continued to provide leadership, mentoring, and inspiration to his colleagues throughout the years.
