Dr. Caroline George is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Critical Care Medicine. She attends on the Pediatric Critical Care Unit and also in the Pediatric Sedation Unit.
Dr. George received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota College of Medicine in 1992, completed her Pediatric Residency program at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in 1995, and completed the Pediatric Critical Care fellowship program at The Children’s Hospital in Denver Colorado in 1998. She became a member of the Pediatric Critical Care division at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in 1998 until 2007 when she joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota. Dr. George is board certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. George’s research focus is on the collectins (surfactant associated protein-A and D) and their contribution to neonatal immunity. This research is currently funded with a focus on both the maternal and neonatal contributions towards preventing infection in the newborn. Other research interests include how the collectins may contribute to the prevention and therapy in the prevention of necrotizing enterocolotis the newborn.
Dr. George’s areas of clinical interest in the Pediatric Critical Care unit include acute lung injury, care of post-operative cardiothoracic patients, and care of children that have experienced non-accidental trauma.
