Michael Bloomquist, PhD

Dr. Bloomquist has extensive research and applied experience in prevention and treatment of children exhibiting behavior problems. He is a co-investigator on several longitudinal studies examining the development of children with aggression, as well as evaluating the effects of a comprehensive community-based prevention program known as Early Risers (see http://www.psychiatry.umn.edu/psychiatry/research/earlyrisers/home.html). He is the author/coauthor of peer-reviewed journal articles and several books pertaining to description and intervention with children exhibiting behavioral disorders.
As Director of the Attention and Behavior Problems Clinic in the Department of Psychiatry (see http://www.psychiatry.umn.edu/psychiatry/clinics/abpclinic.html), Dr. Bloomquist provides and supervises diagnostic/psychological evaluation and parent/family skills training services. Through a part-time forensic psychology consultation, Dr. Bloomquist also conducts juvenile psychological evaluations for the Fourth Judicial District Court in Hennepin County.
Dr. Bloomquist is member of American Psychological Association, Society for Research in Child Development, Society for Prevention Research and the International Society for Research in Child & Adolescent Psychopathology.
Education and Training
Dr. Bloomquist received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1986, and completed a clinical child psychology internship at Duke University Medical Center in 1984/85. He previously held several clinical positions in community agencies, and has worked part- and full-time in the Department of Psychiatry since 1988. He is currently a full-time Associate Professor within the Department of Psychiatry, and a Licensed Psychologist in Minnesota.
