Dr. Realmuto is the Director of the Autism Clinic and Research Center and Medical Director of the Clinic for Attention Deficit and Learning Disorders at the Fairview-University Medical Center.  He is also the Director of the Pediatric Mental Health Consultation and Director of Outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Services and the Director of Pediatric Mental Health Consultation.

He is a graduate of the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York.  He completed his general residency program in Psychiatry at Kings County Hospital.  He completed training in child and adolescent psychiatry at New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center, Westchester Division, White Plains, New York. 

Dr. Realmuto's research interests have focused on the prevention of substance abuse and violence, and the study of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disordered children, comorbidity, risk and protective factors of disruptive children.  He is also interested in the biological determinants of the causes of autism and related developmental disorders.  His research and clinical interests have focused on the biological determinants of symptoms of autism and other developmental disorders; he conducts research on the causes and treatment of autism.  Additional research interests include post-traumatic stress disorder, co-morbidity and family functioning in young-adult Pol Pot survivors, electrophysiological brain mapping in diagnosing and understanding psychiatric disorders, and the study of attention-deficit hyperactivity disordered children.  Dr. Realmuto provides consultation on child abuse and neglect issues and child psychiatric consultation at the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview, as well as in the community.
