Pediatric Rheumatology Elective for Residents

Residents interested in an elective rotation in Pediatric Rheumatology can find additional information in the Elective Compendium which is located on the Current Residents web site under the "Curriculum" section.

Residents considering a career in Pediatric Rheumatology may find it useful to attend or participate in the Annual Scientific Meeting of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR).  The ACR Research and Education Fund has awards and grants for residents to encourage their participation.

Information about fellowship training programs is also available through the ACR web site.

Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship - The Big News for 2009!

We are pleased to announce that we now have an ACGME-accredited Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program at the University of Minnesota and our first fellow!

Dr. Theresa Wampler Muskardin began her fellowship training with us on July 1, 2009, after completing her chief residency in our Department. A Med/Peds-trained physician, Dr. Muskardin is pursuing a 4-year combined training path in our Program as well as the Department of Medicine’s Rheumatology Fellowship Program.

The Wasie Foundation Challenge Grant

In June 2008, a challenge/matching grant was approved by the The Wasie Foundation to support the establishment of a Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program at the University of Minnesota. The challenge/matching grant was approved for up to $500,000, to match dollar-for-dollar any gifts made by individuals, foundations, and corporations for the development of the training program.
The goal of the program is to train new specialists that can advance patient care, professional education, and research for arthritis and other rheumatic conditions for the benefit of the estimated 6,400 affected children in our area, and children elsewhere. Critical Next Steps

Our initial fund-raising efforts have guaranteed funds to permit the training of the first fellow. In order train additional fellows and to qualify the program for future training grants, the Wasie Foundation has generously extended the deadline for fundraising to June 30, 2010. The Minnesota Medical Foundation will continue to coordinate this fundraising effort, but we need you to help spread the word and raise or contribute money essential to making this future come true!

Let family and friends know about this challenge and how they can help!  For more information, please contact Joslyn Biever, Director of Development, at (612) 273-8591 or by email at j.biever@mmf.umn.edu  You can also make a gift online here .
