Education
Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship We are pleased to announce that we now have an ACGME-accredited Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program at the University of Minnesota. Our program started in July 2009, and we aim to enroll one fellow each year in our 3-year training program. The goal of the fellowship program is to train new specialists that can advance patient care, professional education, and research for arthritis and other rheumatic conditions for the benefit of the estimated 6,400 affected children in our area, and children elsewhere. The fellowship program consists of 12 months of clinical training at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital. The clinical training consists of outpatient continuity clinics and inpatient consultations. The 2nd and 3rd years of training are devoted to research, with many potential avenues for clinical and basic research available at the University of Minnesota. For individuals interested in pursuing training in Pediatric Rheumatology at the University of Minnesota, please contact our Program Coordinator, Lindsey Kraus, at prfellow@umn.edu. Applications for fellowship training should be submitted through ERAS, and our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). The Pediatric Rheumatology match occurs in the Fall prior to the year of appointment (ie, residents apply during late Summer/Fall of their final year of residency for positions that begin immediately following completion of residency). A challenge/matching grant was generously provided by the The Wasie Foundation to support the establishment of our Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program at the University of Minnesota. The challenge/matching grant was approved for up to $500,000, to match dollar-for-dollar any gifts given for the development of the training program. We are very pleased to report that with the heartfelt support of many patients, families, friends, and corporations, we reached our initial fund-raising goal of $500,000 in December, 2010. We are exceptionally grateful to The Wasie Foundation for their generous support in establishing our fellowship program, and we continue to work with the Minnesota Medical Foundation to raise funds to sustain the program.
Let family and friends know about our Fellowship Program and how they can help!
