Responsibilities & Benefits
CallEach resident takes call once per month, for a week at a time. All of the call is home call. During the call weekend the resident is expected to round on the patients at the hospital for which they are covering. There is always a staff physician back-up on call with the resident. If you are not scheduled to be on call, you are not required to work the weekend. Education TimeEach resident is allowed education days. These days are not cumulative. They must be taken in the appropriate G year. Residents are allowed education time off as follows: - PGY 1: 2 days
- PGY 2: 2 days
- PGY 3: 3 days
- PGY 4: 5 days
BenefitsIn addition to the resident salary, there are benefits offered through the University of Minnesota. - Health insurance plans are available as individual or family plans.
- Optional dental insurance is available - not available for dependents.
- Life insurance, long-term and short-term disability plans are standard for all residents and fellows.
- An optional retirement plan is available.
- Parking is provided at all affiliate rotation sites.
- The U of M athletic facility is available for resident use for a fee, and offers full work-out facilities.
Vacation- PGY 1 residents receive two weeks paid leave
- PGY 2 residents receive two weeks paid leave
- PGY 3 residents receive three weeks paid leave
- PGY 4 residents receive four weeks paid leave
