Program Activities & Information

Didactics

Lecture series are held ½ day each week held every Wednesday morning, at which time residents are excused from site responsibilities. Lectures occur on an 18-month rotating schedule allowing residents to hear topics twice during their residency.

Journal Club

Journal club occurs on a monthly basis. Residents lead the discussion of a classic and current journal article. Faculty members attend these sessions to add additional input and perspective.

Resident Seminars

Resident Seminars are completed by each resident on a rotating schedule once per year. During these seminars, residents review a pertinent topic in PM&R and present to fellow residents and staff.

MetroRehab

These sessions serve as our grand rounds and involve an invited speaker. Two to three residents also present interesting cases and involve the audience in a lively discussion of a topic or controversial issue in PM&R. These educational sessions occur quarterly.  Each resident presents once per year.

Research Requirement

Residents are required to perform some type of research project and present their results to the group. This can involve anything from a literature review to a clinical project. Residents will be provided guidance and mentoring to assist with their project. If your project involves a poster or platform presentation at a national conference, the department will pay for your expenses to attend the conference.

Self-Assessment Exam

The National PM&R Self-Assessment Exam is given annually.

Continuity Clinic

Continuity clinic occurs on the 2nd and 4th Thursday afternoons of each month. This experience begins during the G3 year and continues through the G4 year. Residents are excused from their rotation responsibilities during this time.

Elective Clinic

Elective clinic occurs on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursday afternoons of each month. Residents choose areas of interest to pursue during this time and are allowed to rotate through as many clinics as elected.

National Organizations

The program supports residents who are interested in participating in AAP and AAPM&R meetings and national events. In addition, chief residents may attend their respective national meetings.
