| The clinical challenges facing anesthesiology today provide a variety of research opportunities ranging from the development of new generation anesthetic agents to genomic and proteomic investigations that may someday lead to treatment strategies tailored to an individual’s unique genetic and biochemical profile.
The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Minnesota Medical School is committed to promoting research as one of the three goals of a clinical academic department; without research, it is not possible to maintain an academic department on the forefront of teaching and clinical advances.
There are a number of external sources through which research funding can be obtained:
Foundation of Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER )
The purpose of FAER is "to stimulate, develop, promote, authorize, commission or contract for, and finance education and research in subjects germane to the provision of anesthesia care and perioperative medicine." Four types of support are available through FAER.
International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS)
The IARS mission is "to further progress and research in all phases of anesthesia." The current IARS Awards Program includes three distinct awards.
Federal Funding Opportunities
Grants.gov allows organizations to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all Federal grant-making agencies. Grants.gov is the single access point for over 1000 grant programs offered by the 26 Federal grant-making agencies.
