7A-6P

Hospitalist or Non-Physician Provide

  1. Contact house physician by 7AM for hand-off on overnight issues on Consult patients.

  2. Answer pages starting at 7AM from nursing and support staff regarding consult patients.

  3. NPP arrives at 7AM to begin daily work; Hospitalist arrives at 10AM.  If no NPP scheduled, Hospitalist arrives at 7AM.

  4. NPP finishes at 3PM; Hospitalist at 6PM.

  5. Prepare written hand-off for house physician.

  6. Email billing information to appropriate office.

  7. Verbally hand off to house physician for cross-cover at 6PM.

Mon-Fri

 6P-7A

House Physician

  1. Answer pages from nursing/support staff regarding patients.

  2. Take information on new, non-urgent consult requests and place on written hand off.

  3. Triage URGENT/EMERGENT consults to Medicine Nightfloat senior.

  4. Hand off overnight issues to staff at 7AM.

Sat-Sun

 7A-3P

 Hospitalist

  1. Contact house physician by 7AM for hand-off on Consult patients from house physician.

  2. Complete daily work.

  3. Prepare written hand-off for house physician.

  4. Email billing form to the appropriate billing office.

  5. Verbally hand off service to house physician at 3PM.

Sat-Sun

 3P-7A

House Physician

  1. Obtain hand off from Consult staff by 3PM.

  2. Answer pages from nursing/support staff regarding consult service patients.

  3. Take information on new, non-urgent consult requests and place on written hand off.

  4. Triage URGENT/EMERGENT consults to Medicine Nightfloat Senior.

  5. Hand off overnight issues to staff at 7AM.

 PATIENT POPULATION

The Gen Med Consult Service expects to provide care for the following types of patients:

  1. Traditional consultations
  2. Primary admission for patients admitted following -
    1. IR procedures
    2. GI procedures, especially ERCP
  3. Primary admissions on medicine patients on weekdays if the teaching Firms become overwhelmed by the number of admissions coming into the hospital.
