Family Medicine Community Health Rotation
Residents are required to complete a 1-month community health rotation. They can work with local county health departments, on Native American reservations, in rural communities, and at international sites such as Thailand, India, Panama, Costa Rica, and the United Kingdom.

For more information on international sites see the following: AAAP International Family Medicine and the University of Minnesota International Medical Education and Research Program.

Community Health Course
Twice a year we sponsor a 1½-day community health course for second- and third-year family medicine residents. Participants learn:

  • to develop and implement preventive health strategies
  • about the importance of a health care team
  • to demonstrate sensitivity to diverse populations
  • to use practice-based CQI data to guide community health interventions
  • how community outreach contributes to the larger health care system
