The Family Medicine Interest Group meets monthly and coordinates procedural clinics attended by as many as 50 students and lunchtime lectures on a variety of primary care topics attended by up to 80 students per session. The University of Minnesota Department of Family Medicine and Community Health sponsors this active group.

AAFP, MAFP, and the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health also provide scholarships that cover registration, transportation, and hotel accommodations for medical students who wish to attend the annual National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students in Kansas City, MO, July 30-August 1, 2009. This conference provides the opportunity for medical students to attend workshops, meet other medical students, and gain insight into the family medicine specialty.
