Primary Research Themes: Gender identity development, transgender health; sexuality and the Internet; HIV prevention, intersexuality.

Education Activities: Course director for Sexual Counseling for Physicians, a required course for family medicine and psychiatry residents. Supervises residents and precepts medical students in sexual counseling practicum, and supervises post-doctoral clinical/research fellows in psychology and human sexuality.

NICHD “Gender Identity and HIV Risk II2007-2012
Principal Investigator. Assess the sexuality and HIV risk behaviors of men who have sex with transgender persons and integrate findings into an Internet-based sexual health intervention for the U.S. transgender population.

NIDA “HIV/STD Infection in an Urban High Risk Population” 2004-2009
Longitudinal study to assess predictors of seroconversion among male-to-female transgender people in New York City.

NIH/NIMH “Internet HIV Prevention Targeting Internet-Using Men Who Have Sex with Men” 2004-2009
Develop, implement, and evaluate an online HIV prevention intervention targeting men who use the Internet to seek sex with other men.
