FMCH 5345 (3 credits): Curriculum Design and Teaching Strategies for Medical Education I, Spring Semester
This course is designed to arm faculty and fellows for their teaching roles as faculty members. The course covers:

• Academic ethics
• The latest theories and findings on adult learning
• Principles of curriculum design, teaching, and evaluation

Specifically, the spring semester focuses on:

• Developing course goals
• Selecting appropriate teaching strategies
• Designing evaluation

FMCH 5346 (1 credit): Curriculum Design and Teaching Strategies for Medical Education II, Intersession
The intersession is the second part of FMCH 5345 and addresses acquiring effective teaching strategies including:

• Lecture
• Demonstration
• Small group discussion
• Clinical teaching
• Computer-assisted instruction
• Distance learning

FPCH 5960 (3 credits): Basic Research Methods in Family Medicine Seminar and Practicum, Fall Semester
Offered to faculty and fellows and taught by Mark Yeazel, MD, MPH. This course considers such topics as:

• The history and current status of research in family medicine
• An overview of the research resources available in the department

And, how does one:

• Ask and refine a research question?
• Conduct a literature search?
• Select an appropriate research methodology?
• Meet federal requirements for the protection of human subjects in research?
• Critically read the medical literature and facilitate its discussion?
• Prepare a research grant proposal?
