Medical Student Clerkship, Department of Family Medicine in the Medical School at the University of Minnesota

Medical Student Selection Policy

The University of Minnesota Mankato Family Medicine Residency Program, in adherence with the policies and procedures of ISJ-MHS, supports and provides medical student training at ISJ. However, in order to ensure and preserve excellent, high quality medical training experiences for both family medicine residents and medical students, and in order to honor the current educational agreements and affiliations with the University of Minnesota and DMU medical schools, the University of Minnesota Mankato Family Medicine Residency Program has the right and responsibility to limit the capacity and scope of medical student training at ISJ. As such, we highly recommend that all medical student training occurring at ISJ be organized and coordinated through the University of Minnesota Mankato Family Medicine Residency Program program coordinator, Wendy Nowak, and the faculty physician director of medical student training, Carroll Galvin, MD. Students who wish to train at ISJ should contact Wendy Nowak at 507-385-6572 or nowak.wendy@mayo.edu. Students will be required to complete a clerkship request application. They will be required to review or complete the following ISJ job shadow documents:

  1. mutual respect policy
  2. dress code policy
  3. emergency codes
  4. job shadow policy
  5. hand hygiene policy
  6. workforce confidentiality.

Selection of students will be prioritized by current educational and affiliation agreements as well as available capacity and resources. Attempts will be made to accommodate as many requests as reasonably possible.
