Clinic
Smiley's Clinic
Our new clinic opened in early 2007, but has served Cedar Riverside, Seward, Phillips, and the surrounding neighborhoods since 1971. We are located close to the University of Minnesota campus for easy access to the biomedical library, book stores, recreational center, and other University resources. We are also conveniently located near light rail, bus lines, and the Midtown Greenway, a 5.5 mile urban bike trail that stretches from Lake Calhoun to the Mississippi River.
We serve an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse patient population with a blend of college students, immigrants, professors, underserved populations, and urbanites.
Creating a Medical Home
The progressive design of our new facility is centered on the idea of team care and fully supports the implementation of the Chronic Care Model. Three nurses' stations anchor each team and surround the central teaching area, affectionately dubbed the "Mother Ship." Each resident is assigned an advisor and a team. This encourages continuity of care and enables the residents to develop a strong working relationship with patient care staff.
